For most Americans, taxes and Girl Scouts cookies are two inevitabilities that come around at the turn of every new year. Less than a month after we all left cookies out for Santa during Christmas, our minds are once again focused on sweet, crispy treats — the kind that we buy from those cute kiddos with sashes who have set up shop outside the supermarket. Many of us then devour those cookies by the boxful! Unfortunately for fans of the S’mores and Toast-Yay! varieties of Girl Scout cookies, 2025 will mark the curtain call on these desserts. Neither cookie is coming back next year, according to a press release shared with Foodie by the Girl Scouts of the USA.
As the Girl Scouts kick off their 2025 cookie season, you are undoubtedly thinking about what boxes you will stock up on this winter. The Girls Scouts FAQ page breaks it down, arguing that these cookie sales not only help young women develop entrepreneurial skills that will aid them through their lives, but the cookie proceeds also help them fund special local projects. Whether you buy cookies from your local Girl Scout or order them online, you are not only feeding your face with luscious treats, but supporting a good cause. And if you love S’mores or Toast-Yay! cookies, there has never been more incentive to stuff your stash, because they really won’t be back. Unlike snack food products that were discontinued for a good reason, the departing cookies are leaving on far less scandalous grounds.

Girl Scouts S’mores and Toast-Yay! cookies side-by-side – Girl Scouts of the USA
We know why Girl Scouts cookies get discontinued — the organization simply wants to keep the rotation concise and yet fresh, so it sometimes eliminates less-popular varieties to make way for newer and more trendy options. Luckily, there are still a ton of amazing cookies in the lineup. Thin Mints, Tagalongs, and Samoas (the holy trinity of Girl Scouts treats) are all safe from the chopping block, obviously, but there are also peanut buttery Do-si-dos, brownie-esque Adventurefuls, tangy Lemonades, and gluten-free options like Toffee-tastic and Caramel Chocolate Chip.
There’s no denying that the loss of S’mores and Toast-yay! cookies is a deep cut. Still, we especially loved the S’mores cookies with their perfect shortbread snap and indulgent layers of chocolate and marshmallow, which somehow captured all the flavors of a campfire favorite with none of the effort or gooey mess. However, we’re at peace with the loss of the cookies, because that surely means something new is coming in 2026. The only thing that might be as good as Girl Scouts cookies in hand is the dream of fresh favorites to come. Happy snacking!
