How long can you store Girl Scout cookies?

If S’mores or Toast-Yay! flavors are your favorites, you’re probably thinking of putting in a large order to enjoy them for as long as possible. The question becomes: What’s the best way to store them to keep them fresh?

In the pantry, the cookies are good through the best-by date printed on the box, usually a few months. If you want to keep them longer, toss them in the freezer. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, cookies can be stored in the freezer for eight months to a year, or refrigerated for up to two months.

According to some, Girl Scout cookies are better when refrigerated or frozen.

In 2023, Tasting Table did a review of each flavor at room temperature, refrigerated and frozen. In a 2015 interview with Time, a Girl Scouts official swears by frozen Thin Mints. “I mean, it’s the only way to eat them,” she said.
