A 2.8 magnitude earthquake shook the Richmond, Virginia area Tuesday afternoon, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The quake struck about six miles northwest of Glen Allen, Virginia, and about 13 miles northwest of the city of Richmond, the USGS reported. Initial reports indicate the earthquake struck at a depth of about seven miles and no damage or injuries were immediately reported.
Light to moderate shaking was reported as far southwest as Blacksburg and as far northwest as Harrisonburg, the geological survey reports.
According to reporting from WTVR, a CBS affiliate in Richmond, hundreds of residents in Richmond and Henrico County said they felt the shaking.
