This post contains spoilers from Bad Sisters Season 2, Episode 7. Proceed accordingly.
In this week’s Bad Sisters, Eva realizes that she’s been conned in the same way people sometimes fall in love: slowly, and then all at once.
After sleeping with Ian — and withstanding her sisters’ ire when they find out that she’s shagged Grace’s widower — in the previous installment, Sharon Horgan‘s character starts Episode 7 by getting a very troubling text alert from her bank: Funds have been moved out of the savings account belonging to her niece, Blánaid. The transfer is news to Eva, who’s a co-trustee of the account along with Ian, who’s also Blánaid’s stepfather. When Eva realizes that he’s not answering her calls… and his things are missing from the house… and the amount taken from Blánaid’s account is more than €100,000… she sits down on the bank’s floor in shock.
The sinking realization that Ian is not who he seemed “is sort of a slightly slow burn,” Horgan tells TVLine in the video interview above. “It comes to her in, sort of, stages. I mean, she clearly knows something terrible is up when she goes ’round the house or even gets the message from the bank, but it’s not quite believing it.”
But wait: It gets worse! “Even after that,” Horgan continues, “there’s the other realization, which is that Grace must have known [about Ian’s duplicity]. I think it’s such a deep self-hatred, you now, and it kind of gets worse as that episode goes on.”
That’s an understatement: By the time the credits roll, we know — but Eva and her sisters don’t — that Ian has a wife and family elsewhere! Even worse, the wife is in on the con!
