COUNTY. YESTERDAY, THE SCHOOL PARKING LOTS WERE COVERED IN SEVERAL INCHES OF SNOW. TODAY THEY ARE DOWN TO MOSTLY PAVEMENT. A LITTLE BIT OF ICE AND SLUSH STILL REMAINS, BUT MUCH MORE PASSABLE THAN THEY WERE. IT’S COLD. IT’S A LOT. I’M READY FOR THE KIDS TO GO BACK. THAT’S PRETTY EMPTY. THAT’S COOL. TWO SNOW DAYS COMING RIGHT ON THE HEELS OF WINTER BREAK. THE SNOW HIT THE ENTIRE STATE OF MARYLAND HARD. ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY TOOK THE BRUNT IN THE BALTIMORE AREA WITH SIX PLUS INCHES. I THINK IT’S NICE. WE’VE BEEN OUTSIDE TRYING TO, LIKE, DO SNOWBALL FIGHTS AND WE KEEP RIDING THE SLED AROUND THE HOUSE. WE BUILT A SLED RAMP OUTSIDE AND WE WERE DOING SNOWBALL FIGHT. READY? GO! THE KIDS ARE ENJOYING IT. MANY HEADING TO A POPULAR SLEDDING HILL IN LINTHICUM. TUESDAY. OH, MAN. BUT ALL THAT SNOW TAKES A WHILE TO CLEAN UP. CREWS WERE OUT IN SCHOOL DISTRICTS ALL OVER THE AREA TO PLOW AND SHOVEL OUT THE SCHOOL BUILDINGS AND GET THEM READY FOR THE KIDS TO RETURN, TO MAKE SURE THAT STUDENTS CAN WALK TO SCHOOL. TO MAKE SURE THAT STUDENTS WHO ARE DRIVEN BY PARENTS CAN SAFELY GET INTO INTO PARKING LOTS, TO MAKE SURE STAFF CAN DO THAT, AND THEN TO MAKE SURE OUR SCHOOL BUSSES CAN GET HERE. ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY USES BOTH STAFF AND CONTRACTORS TO GET THE JOB DONE, STARTING EARLY IN THE MORNING AND WORKING THROUGH THE DAY. PARENTS WILL BE GLAD TO HEAR THEIR GOAL IS TO GET STUDENTS BACK TO SCHOOLS AS QUICKLY AS IS SAFELY POSSIBLE. THE OUTSIDE IS WHAT EVERYBODY SEES, RIGHT? BUT THE INSIDE IS IMPORTANT TOO. CHECKING TO MAKE SURE THE BOILERS ARE FUNCTIONING SO THE PIPES DON’T FREEZE, AND ALL THOSE THINGS ARE CRITICALLY IMPORTANT. ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY MADE THE DECISION TO CLOSE SCHOOLS ON WEDNESDAY AS WELL.

But cleaning up the six or more inches of snow that fell In Anne Arundel County Monday is proving quite a task for crews trying to clear the snow from school buildings so students can return.

Anne Arundel County Schools will be closed again Wednesday, the district announced Tuesday evening.

Crews and contractors started work early Tuesday morning and worked throughout the day.

“These are the real heroes of this operation for us,” said Anne Arundel County Schools spokesperson Bob Mosier. “Late at night, early in the morning, frigid temperatures, wind, battling all these elements to be able to get our kids back to school.”

The kids look forward to another snow day — but coming on the heels of winter break, some parents are more than ready for the students to return.

“Ours have been outside quite a bit playing in the snow and doing a little sledding in the yard, but they’re definitely destroying the house with arts and crafts and everything,” said Nikita Wellein.
