PECOS, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – UPDATE: State Representative Eddie Morales Jr. and Union Pacific have released statements regarding the train crash and derailment that killed one and injured four Wednesday evening.
Local State Representative Eddie Morales Jr. said on Facebook that he has been in contact with the Texas Department of Emergency Management and local officials. No state assistance has been requested as of 9:45 pm and the response remains under control of the Reeves County Emergency Management Coordinator.
Union Pacific said it is “investigating this fluid situation as [they] cooperate with local first responders.”

UPDATE: According to Pecos City Manager Charles Lino, a tractor trailer was struck by a train a little before 5 pm on Wednesday. As of 7:28 pm, there was one reported casualty, one person seriously injured, who transported to Odessa, and three injured individuals who were treated at Reeves Regional Health.
Lino said there were three cars with “potentially hazmat material” inside. None of those had any breach. Currently, the only reported breach is of diesel fuel from the engine.

A train derailed in Pecos Wednesday afternoon, hitting the Chamber of Commerce building.
According to City Officials, at about 5 pm on Wednesday, December 18, a train derailed near Oak Street and Dot Stafford Street. Authorities are currently addressing the situation. Officials are advising the public to avoid the area until the situation is resolved.
