‘Duck Dynasty’ returning with revival series, 8 years after cancellation

The Robertson family is returning to a screen near you, eight years after Duck Dynasty originally ran its course at A&E.

The new series, Duck Dynasty: The Revival, will be turning its attention to couple Korie and Willie Robertson, their adult children and their grandchildren, all living on the family’s Louisiana homestead.

Per the logline, “With their dynasty expanding into more than just ducks, Willie and Korie will bring their signature humor and family fun as they grapple with mapping out the future of Duck Commander, watching the kids navigate marriage, children and businesses of their own, and passing down the family legacy.”

The series is expected to premiere in summer 2025 and has already landed a two-season order, with each slated to include 20 one-hour episodes.

“Going back on A&E feels a little like going back home,” Willie and Korie said in a joint statement, addressing their return. “We’re thankful for all who have followed along as our family has grown and expanded and can’t wait to get cameras rolling again on all our new adventures, or perhaps misadventures.”

Elaine Frontain Bryant, executive vice president & head of programming, A&E and Lifetime added, “The Robertsons earned a seat in homes across the country with their unique brand of downhome practicality, southern charm and relatable humor. Duck Dynasty played a huge part of the success of A&E for many years, and we look forward to reuniting with the Robertsons on the revival.”

Duck Dynasty debuted with immediate success in 2012 and lasted 11 seasons. A year into its run, the unscripted series was averaging as much as 14.6 million viewers in Live+7 ratings. But as the series progressed, the Robertsons were plagued by controversy, most of which centered on family patriarch and then-star Phil Robertson (founder of the Duck Commander brand), whose homophobic and racially insensitive comments in a 2014 GQ magazine article sparked backlash and led to a brief suspension by A&E (though the show was not in production at the time).

Phil is not listed among the family members A&E noted will take part in Duck Dynasty: The Revival. Instead, fans can expect the return of Willie, Korie, Miss Kay, Uncle Si and the kids, John Luke, Sadie, Will, Bella, and Rebecca.

The 2014 interview saw Robertson refer to homosexuality as a sin, likening it to bestiality, and argue that Black people were happy in pre-civil rights era Louisiana. Several conservative media pundits and politicians came to Robertson’s defense and he was soon reinstated, sparking yet more outrage.

Robertson would make several more controversial comments over the years, slamming atheists and doubling down on his homophobic views. Once Duck Dynasty ended in 2017, he launched a new show, In the Woods with Phil. In 2019, he also began a podcast about Christianity, Unashamed With Phil Robertson, along with his sons Al and Jase. Most recently, the Robertson family announced in December 2024 that Phil had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
