Henrico issues state of local emergency amid water issues

HENRICO COUNTY, VA. (WWBT) – Henrico County has issued a state of local emergency following water issues in the east end.

During a Tuesday morning press conference, officials said this would allow the county to quickly distribute resources to schools, hospitals, and nursing homes.

Officials provided a timeline of what led to the low pressure and outages.

“The loss of water pressure is due to the quick rerouting of water services from the City of Richmond’s water facility yesterday afternoon for Henrico customers, combined with a water main break that is taking pressure from the water lines,” Henrico’s Department of Public Works said in a statement.

Officials say they hope to restore water to east-end residents by Tuesday afternoon.

The county says all Henrico water customers are currently being served by the Henrico Water Treatment Facility.

Officials confirm that the water is clean and safe to drink.

Residents with questions can call the county at 804-501-4275 and select option 2.
