Recent reports made it seem like the Red Sox were gaining ground in their quest to sign Teoscar Hernández.

Hernández reportedly wants to stay in Los Angeles, but the veteran slugger and the Dodgers appear to be at an impasse in negotiations. The gap might be wide, too, as the reigning World Series champions reportedly have started looking at other right-handed bats who could fill a potential void Hernández leaves behind in Chavez Ravine.

Unfortunately for Boston and other interested clubs, The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal believes the two-time All-Star and the Dodgers eventually will find common ground on a deal.

“I still expect them (Dodgers) to sign Teoscar Hernández,” Rosenthal said Monday on “Fair Territory.” “This is seemingly the dance the two sides are going through. It’s taking much longer than it should have. Teoscar wants to be back, the Dodgers want him back. I’m not exactly sure what the problem is.”

Hernández reportedly wants a three-year contract worth between $66 million and $72 million. So if the Red Sox or any other club want to pry the 32-year-old out of LA, they might have to make him an offer he can’t refuse.

If not, don’t be surprised if Hernández runs it back with Shohei Ohtani and company.
