Percy Jackson & the Olympians’ Latest Casting Updates: 12 Actors Join the Cast & 6 Stars Are Confirmed to Return for Disney+ Series

Daniel Diemer – JOINING

Daniel Diemer is joining the season two cast in a series regular role as Tyson – a young Cyclops who grew up all alone on the streets, and finds it difficult to survive in the human world. Shy and awkward, with a heart almost as big as he is, Tyson soon discovers that Poseidon is his father, which means Percy Jackson is his half-brother… and that Tyson may have finally found a home.

Tamara Smart – JOINING

Tamara Smart has joined the season two cast in the role of Thalia Grace, and she will be a recurring guest star.

Thalia is the Demigod daughter of Zeus who made her last stand to protect her friends at the edge of Camp Half-Blood. Rather than let her die, Zeus transformed her into a tree that anchors the force field that protects camp. Tough and prickly, with a rebel/punk sensibility, Thalia is fiercely loyal to her friends and distrustful of her father’s world.

“Thalia Grace is one of the most important characters in the Percy Jackson universe, so the right casting was critical,” author and executive producer Rick Riordan shared in a statement. “Thalia is a powerful warrior, a fiercely loyal friend, and a demigod rebel with a very ‘punk’ / ‘rage-against-the-machine’ sensibility. As soon as we saw Tamara Smart play this role, we knew we had found our daughter of Zeus. She was, no pun intended, electric. Tamara puts the ‘grace’ in Thalia Grace!”

Tamara‘s casting as the daughter of Zeus is quite poignant as she previously worked with the late Lance Reddick (who played Zeus in season one) on the Netflix series Resident Evil. She also played his daughter on that series.

“I’m so grateful and excited to be joining the cast of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. It’s so close to my heart,” Tamara shared. “Lance Reddick and I always spoke about working together again, so it’s that much more special and important to me to play his daughter once more as Thalia, and to keep his memory alive. I feel his presence all around me and strive to make him proud on this exciting journey.”

Courtney B Vance – JOINING

Courtney B Vance (pictured left) was announced in November 2024 to be cast as Zeus, replacing the late Lance Reddick, who sadly passed away in March 2023.

“I can’t tell you how excited I am to join the extraordinary cast of ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians!’” Courtney told Variety. “There are few moments in an actor’s career when you can honestly say that you’re about to board a series that has such a devoted fan base filled with characters beloved around the world and is based on a wildly successful book series. I know that stepping into this role of Zeus will be a memorable experience and I’ll be giving my brother, Lance Reddick, who left us way too soon, a heavenly hug.”

Producers on the show previously addressed the possibility of casting a new actor in the role.

Zeus can be described as the all-powerful god of the sky and leader of Mount Olympus, Zeus is tempestuous and mistrustful. He’s promised to wage a war if his stolen thunderbolt is not returned.

Andra Day – JOINING

Singer and actress Andra Day has been cast Athena, the Greek Goddess of Wisdom, it was announced at D23 Brazil on Sunday (November 10).

“I can’t wait to bring her to life and work alongside such talented actors. Stay tuned for this epic journey, y’all,” Andra shared in a video message, which you can watch above.

If you didn’t know, Athena is also the mother to Leah Sava Jeffrie‘s Annabeth Chase!

Timothy Simons – JOINING

Timothy Simons has joined the season two cast, where he will portray Tantalus.

According to Variety, the character is “sardonic, manipulative, openly hostile, and rarely in a good mood… seeing as he is cursed with eternal hunger and thirst, but can never eat or drink. Tantalus has been released from imprisonment in the Underworld to become the interim Activities Director at Camp Half-Blood, having replaced Chiron who is under suspicion of having ties to Kronos.”

Sandra Bernhard, Kristen Schaal and Margaret Cho – JOINING

(left to right) Sandra Bernhard, Kristen Schaal and Margaret Cho join the season two cast as the Gray Sisters, who are, via Deadline, “old women who share one eye and one tooth, and they operate a ‘taxi firm’ in New York City. They encounter a few of the main characters after scooping them up while they’re on the run in Sea of Monsters.”

Sandra will play Anger, Kristen is Tempest and Margaret will portray Wasp.

As a true daughter of the Greek goddess Athena, Annabeth is a brilliant strategist with an active and curious mind. Walker Scobell – RETURNING

Walker Scobell will reprise his role as Percy Jackson.

Percy is described as a smart and compassionate kid with a sharp sense of humor. He’s always seen himself as an outsider, in no small part because of how the world sees his ADHD and dyslexia. He’s impulsive and rambunctious and is quick to anger when things seem unfair to him. But beneath his cynicism is an affectionate son and loyal friend who just wants to do right by those he cares about. If only he could find a place where he fits in.
