ATLANTA — As a significant winter weather system swept across the state Friday, fluffy snow that initially fell has transitioned to rain and is expected to freeze overnight — setting up the potential for icy conditions that could mean iced-over trees that could fall and take down power lines, leading to power outages.
Georgia Power said its crews are ready to respond to any power issues quickly, and as conditions are safe to work.
Outages during the day Friday were minimal but were anticipated to increase due to additional ice accumulation or falling trees.
“All Georgia Power resources are engaged and well positioned,” the company said, adding that it has moved crews from south Georgia, Florida and other spots within the Southern Company system to help.
