Randle High School heads to state finals in historic run

Last week, Richmond’s Randle High School Lions took the field against Boerne in a hard-fought playoff game—and emerged victorious.

Now, the team is heading to Arlington to compete in the state finals at the iconic AT&T Stadium, and they’re inviting all of Houston to join them in this historic moment Friday night.

The Lions’ journey to the championship game is nothing short of remarkable. Despite being a relatively new school, Randle High has quickly established itself as a powerhouse. In just four years since opening, they’ve earned a spot on the state’s biggest stage, living up to their motto: “Make your mark.”

The road to the finals

Facing a competitive Boerne team last week, the Lions showed grit and determination to secure their win.

Students, fans, and players alike were energized by the atmosphere.

“Honestly, it was super exciting knowing that we were just one game away from playoffs,” said one student. “We were going against a really competitive team, and I feel like we got the energy up as a crowd, especially from the beginning of the game. It was a really nice experience.”

With their win in the books, the Lions are now preparing to take on South Oak Cliff in Arlington.

A quiet tradition

While most schools hold pep rallies to fire up their teams and fans, Randle High is sticking to a unique superstition: no pep rallies.

The stadium at Randle High stands quiet this week, as the team focuses solely on their game plan and maintains their winning streak.

“We expected to be here, to be honest with you,” said the head coach. “We’ve talked about it all year. We’ve been talking about it since 2021, since we opened, so we kind of spoke it into existence. Proud of the boys, proud of the community—just proud.”

A tough opponent ahead

The Lions know they face a formidable opponent in South Oak Cliff, but they’re ready to meet the challenge head-on.

“They’re big and fast, so we can’t just attack them straight on,” said one player. “We’ll have to manipulate them and, I mean, go out and win.”

Calling all Houston fans

This trip to the state finals is a monumental moment for Randle High School and the entire Richmond community. The team is asking fans across Houston to make the journey to Arlington and cheer them on as they aim for their first state championship.

The game will take place at 7 p.m. Friday night at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Don’t miss your chance to support the Lions as they hope to make history!
