Renowned jewelry designer Lynn Ban dead weeks after Colorado skiing accident

WASHINGTON — Lynn Ban, a jewelry designer and star of the Netflix reality show “Bling Empire: New York,” has died just weeks after undergoing emergency brain surgery following a ski accident in Colorado.

“My mum passed away on Monday,” Ban’s son Sebastian posted on his mother’s Instagram account on Wednesday. “I know she wanted to share her journey after her accident and brain surgery, so I thought she would appreciate one last post sharing the news to people who supported her.”

“I would like to take the chance to share who my mum really was. She was and always will be my best friend, the best mother to me, and someone who cared for all. She always had a smile on her face even when times were tough during her recovery process. She was a fighter until the end and is the strongest woman I know,” Sebastian wrote.

Last month, Lynn Ban revealed she suffered a ski accident while on vacation in Aspen on Christmas Eve. She explained she had “caught a tip and face planted” while at the top of a mountain. She described in a Dec. 30 Instagram post that she had been wearing a helmet and was initially cleared by ski patrol; however, a paramedic later suggested she go to the hospital for a scan.

“This saved my life. I went in a taxi with Jett and within 30 minutes they told us I had a brain bleed and needed to be airlifted to the trauma hospital,” Lynn Ban described. Her post was accompanied by hospital photos showing the designer with a partially shaved head and stiches from her emergency craniotomy.

An official cause of death has not yet been reported. Some news reports about her death list Ban’s age as 51, while others say she is 52.

Born in Singapore, Ban’s career path took her to cities like New York, London and Paris.

Known for her creative talent spanning over two and a half decades in the fashion industry, Ban has left a huge mark on the world of fashion. Her signature jewelry line, Lynn Ban Jewelry, catered to private clientele, and her collections have been worn by Rihanna, Beyonce, Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, Kendrick Lamar and Post Malone.

Rihanna paid tribute to Ban in a comment underneath Sebastian Ban’s post: “2025 is rocking me at this point! This is too much!!! Lynn you will always be our fairy godmother! Love you forever and always! Can’t believe I’m writing this in a comment section rn!”
